Recently on MustangWeekly.com , Art Hyde chief program engineer for Team Mustang answered questions from visitors to the site about the Mustang Bullitt (click here to view that web page). One of the questions listed was asked by a registrant with this site. He added a comment (as an owner of a 35th Anniversary Limited Edition and as one who has ordered a Bullitt) about his dissatisfaction that some of the features of the 35th Anniversary Limited Edition have become standard on current Mustangs. I applaud Andrew for his comment (it is one I have mentioned in the past) because he stated it to Art Hyde (something I could probably never do). Art's response was that the 35th Anniversary Limited Edition was serialized at the factory as part of a limited edition run. I have recevied many e-mails regarding this article asking what Art meant, but I have no that he discovered on his 35th Limited Edition that may be part of the answer.
Mike from Georgia e-mailed me about a buck tag that he found on his Limited Edition. I found this tag on my own car (pictured at left) using the directions he gave me. I do not know what any of the information on the tag represents, but (again) I am going to find out. I guess that MAN means manual transmission and 35TH SPL means 35th special edition, but I don't know what the numbers mean. I compared the numbers to the information on my window sticker and my original order sheet, but none of the numbers match anything on them.
I will attempt to describe where you can find this buck tag. You can use the picture at right to help you. The tag is a thin metal tag painted the same color as your car, approximately 1-inch wide by 2-inches long. It is fastened to a metal piece that runs vertically from the bottom of the car to the front hood lip (where the hood adjustment pin connects). You can see the tag (although you will not be able to read it) by looking at down between the headlight assembly and the front hood lip (see picture). You will want to look down this opening and toward the engine (see picture for the approximate height). The buck tag will be attached sideways (the letters and numbers read from bottom to top) flush with the metal piece. To read it you will need to bend it slightly upwards (it is only attached at the top). It is easier to do this from underneath the vehicle. Reach under the front clip and up to where the tag is located (this is easier to do if someone guides you from above) and bend it at about a 45-degree angle (enough to read the information). It has been brought to my attention by several site visitors that this tag can be more easily be read simply by removing the headlight. The headlight is held in place by two black clips that slide down behind the headlight which can be removed simply by sliding them up. The headlight will then slide right out. Boy do I feel stupid! When you are done you can bend it back to its original position. If you don't want to bend it, you can use Play-Doh to do an impression of it.
I would like to here from some of you. Let me know what information you have found or if you are having trouble finding the information. In the meantime, I will try to find out what the information means.
